About Hilo

Hilo pronounced HEE-Lo, means yarn in Spanish.
Hilo Fiber Bar is a space where girlhood, sustainability, and creativity come together through the art of textiles. It’s more than just a workshop—it’s a place to learn, make, and transform, both in craft and in life. Rooted in sustainable practices, Hilo fosters a deep understanding of fibers, their origins, and their impact on the world. Through hands-on learning, we encourage curiosity, skill-building, and the confidence to apply creativity to daily life. Inspired by the spirit of girlhood, we embrace experimentation, self-expression, and the joy of trying something new. Whether threading a needle for the first time or mastering a new technique, every stitch represents resilience, imagination, and self-discovery. At Hilo, we believe that making with your hands shapes more than fabric—it shapes who you are, how you think, and how you create space for yourself in the world. Here, craft is not just a skill—it’s a practice of empowerment, mindfulness, and personal transformation.
Hilo was first born in 2020 in Philadelphia PA, founded by Miranda G Lopez Rodriguez. As an evolving artist she came across this medium very early in her career. She first begun creating yarn images on small canvases then later translated into murals and furniture. In the midst of growing such love for this tiny fiber she wanted to share the fuzzy feeling with others, so she birthed Hilo Fiber Bar.
